John Nunn Building Contractors, a locally based (Orange) building firm won a prestigious award on 1st November in Sydney.

In front of almost 1,000 of NSW top builders, John Nunn Building Contractors won the category for Best Refurbishment/Renovation/Extension up to the value of $5 million in the MBA (Master Builders Association) 2008 Excellence in Construction Awards at the Darling Harbour Convention Centre hosted by Tony Squires and Catriona Rowntree.

The winning project was for the new state of the art Head Office facility for PYBAR Mining and Civil Contractors which is located in Forest Road in Orange. John Nunn Building Contractors was awarded the contract in 2007 to build the facility at the site where a party hire business was previously conducted from a sparse 70s outdated red brick building. The building was completed in March 2008 with an impeccable safety record of no incidents, producing an innovative and impressive facility.

. And as stated by Catriona on the evening "Orange has seen nothing like this before".

John and his staff were in Sydney to accept the award. Managing Director of PYBAR Mining and Civil Contractors, Mr Paul Rouse was also present and acknowledged how delighted he was with the award.

+ October 2008 - PYBAR Nominated for Contractor of the Year Award

PYBAR was recently nominated for Contractor of the Year at the 2008 Prospect Mining Awards held in Cockle Bay Sydney. The Australian Mining Prospect Awards aim to encourage, recognise and reward excellence in the Australian mining industry. Nominations are sourced from the mineral exploration and mining industry and finalists are chosen by a panel of judges with expertise in the Australian mining industry using specific criteria based on demonstrated innovation and excellence in outcome.

PYBAR unfortunately missed out on winning the award, but Paul Rouse, CEO PYBAR Group said "although we didnt win, the fact that PYBAR was nominated for such an award demonstrates our ability to deliver safe, efficient and performance driven solutions successfully to our clients".

+ September 2008 - PYBAR Appoints Chief Operating Officer

Due to the PYBAR Groups growth and future development plans, the board has decided to create the role of Chief Operating Officer within the group. The board has pleasure in announcing that it has appointed Mr Jim Simpson to this role.

Jim comes to PYBAR from Peak Gold Ltd, where he held the position of Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President, Director Peak Gold Asia Pacific. This role included responsibility for the operations at Peak Gold Mines in Cobar NSW, operations at MPBA in Amapari, Amapa, Brazil and participation in the companys acquisitions and merges team.

Prior to Jims Period at Peak Gold he was General Manager Mining Lead Zinc at MIM Holdings, Mount Isa, and has also had numerous other underground mining management and operational roles. He has previous mine consulting experience with Australian Mining Consultants Pty Ltd. Jim has a Bachelor of Engineering (Mining), Hons and a Diploma of Business. He holds a First Class Mine Managers Certificate Qld, WA, NSW and a Shotfiers Ticket.

Jims experience will assist in providing our clients with the highest standard of safe, performance driven service on our projects through the overall direction of the key operationally focussed support departments and our operations teams.

+ April 2008 - PYBAR Wins Tritton Contract

PYBAR Mining Services Pty Ltd has been successful in securing a 3 year underground mining and development contract with Straits Resources at Tritton. The Tritton Copper Mine is located approx 12km North of Hermidale and 60kms west of Nyngan.

The project work involves approx 15,000 m of decline and ore body access development together with longhole production drilling, vertical development, bogging, trucking, cablebolting and associated ground support functions.

The project commenced mid March 2008 with Jim Johnson as the Project Manager.  At this stage the workforce is expected to consist of approximately 120 personnel working 12 hours shifts on an even time roster. The focus is attracting, training and retaining a locally based workforce. As we continue to attract and develop a locally based workforce there will be a component of the workforce commuting on a Fly in Fly Out (FIFO) basis.

The mining fleet consists of 3 jumbos, 2 longhole drill rigs, 4 loaders, 6 underground 50 tonne haul trucks together with 3 IT’s, grader, water cart, charge up and shotcrete units and underground light vehicles.

Mr Andrew Glastonbury, Business Development Manager says, "we are hoping this is the start of a fruitful and long term relationship with Straits Resources at their Tritton and Girilambone operations and that this contract leads to further growth of PYBAR's share of the NSW metalliferous mining sector."

Within two months of completing the PYBAR head office building, we have been awarded by the ORANGE City Council Tidy Towns Advisory Committee. PYBAR’s new head office building has improved the appearance of our local area and hope to inspire other businesses to do so and take pride in our city.

Tidy Towns believes businesses should take pride in their presentation of their businesses and PYBAR have been awarded in view of that.

PYBAR’s managing director Mr Paul Rouse said renovations were completed about 8 weeks ago for our new home in Forest Road.  ‘The new building combines three previous locations all under the one roof.’

PYBAR was congratulated by ORANGE City Council, Tidy Towns Advisory committee chairman, councilor Jason Hamling and presented with certificates of appreciation.

PYBAR is proud to be community focused which includes building and maintaining a strong relationship with local communities.  PYBAR’s 950 square metre building was designed by Fitzsimons and O’Brien architects and built by John Nunn Building Contractors Pty Ltd, both local business and included the use of local suppliers in and surrounding the Central West area.

The new building will prove sufficient space for approximately 45 and meet the demands of PYBAR’s high growth needs.
