For accounts payable team leader, Kellie McGovern, much has changed since starting at PYBAR five years ago.

When I started’ says Kellie, ‘I was the only full time accounts payable person, assisted by a part timer’. Now Kellie manages three full time employees who work as a team to effectively manage prompt payments to PYBAR’s suppliers.

Kellie describes the best parts of her role at PYBAR as working with the great team in accounts payable and being involved with projects such as computer system selection, development of systems and procedures, fine tuning linkages with other departments within PYBAR and working on new project start-ups – including travelling to site.

Kellie enjoys working with and nurturing a helpful and friendly team in the accounts payable department. She fosters team spirit by making sure no one is overloaded, rolling her own sleeves up when required to help and always having an open door if ever there is an issue.

‘Working as a team is one of the great things about being at PYBAR’, says Kellie, ‘I’ve really enjoyed the challenges of growing the accounts payable team – determining the best way to keep up with increased data entry and payments, and being proactive so we all do a good job in an enjoyable environment’.

Kellie was part of the new computer program selection team, working with the shortlisted systems, providing feedback and, once the selected system – Minepoint – was installed, working on the set up of the systems and procedures to streamline the accounts payable operations.

Kellie participates in project start-up planning, playing her role in getting new operations up and running quickly. PYBAR gave Kellie the opportunity to travel to Queensland for the start-up of the Lady Loretta project, assisting the site administrators set up the office. It helped her learn about workflow from the administrators’ view, in addition to the the experience of being on site and sleeping in a donga!

Kellie looks back at her five years with PYBAR as learning a lot and seeing a lot, with her biggest achievement moving the creditors into a consistent payment schedule through timely data entry, cross checking and project site liaison, keeping both suppliers and the team happy.

Looking forward, Kellie will shortly complete an advanced team leader course and, with PYBAR’s continued growth, is keen to lead a larger team.
